New Market share of glass Fiber Refractories Breaks "bottleneck"

The problem of domestic refractories for glass fiber tank kilns has been basically solved, and the main technical performance of domestic refractories is completely comparable with the level of similar foreign products, which opens up the bottleneck for the large-scale development of glass fiber tank kilns in China in the next few years.

The production technology of refractories used in glass fiber tank kiln is always a glass fiber production process, especially one of the key technologies in the drawing process of the glass fiber tank kiln. It plays a vital role in the investment level of the production line and the drawing production technology level, and is the basis for the glass fiber tank kiln to achieve high quality, high yield, low energy consumption and long life. The research on refractories suitable for glass fiber production has been started since the 1960s, but the progress is not satisfactory. Especially from the mid-1980s, after the development of pool kiln wire drawing technology, refractory materials can only rely on imports. The production technology of refractory materials for pond kiln has always been monopolized by two world class companies (see map), Colhat and VGT of Germany. This restricts the development of fiberglass industry to a certain extent.


In June 1990, China's first alkali free tank kiln wire drawing production line was put into operation in Zhuhai Special Economic Zone Glass Fiber Enterprise Co., LTD. (Zhuhai Glass Fiber Company for short), but the tank kiln wire drawing production line can only introduce a full set of Japanese technology, the main equipment including the kiln and its refractories all need to be imported. This makes the investment cost very large, coupled with the technical restrictions of foreign companies, after a period of time, the development of domestic alkali free glass fiber tank kiln basically no progress. Until the mid-1990s, there was still only one company, Zhuhai Glass Fiber, with a small production scale, which had a non-alkali glass fiber pool kiln drawing production line. Through the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" technology, Nanjing Fiberglass Research and Design Institute (referred to as Nanjing Fiberglass Institute) has solved the problem of the domestic production process and equipment technology of pool kiln wire drawing, thus promoting the process of the domestic production technology of pool kiln wire drawing. However, as one of the technical problems, refractory materials used in pond kiln were not included in the "Eighth Five-Year Plan", which also became a heart disease for engineering and technical personnel in the national glass fiber industry. It is worth mentioning that in the 1950s, there was a small glass fiber tank kiln drawing unit kiln in the world, with a daily output of only a few tons. Due to the poor quality of refractory materials used in the kiln, the kiln was only a few months old.


With the development of the world glass fiber industry and refractory materials, the age of alkali free glass unit kiln has been increased to 4-5 years in the 1960s; In the 1970s, large pool kilns appeared in the world, with a furnace age of 6-7 years. This is also thanks to the successful development of high performance refractory materials such as compact zirconium brick and chromium oxide brick produced by advanced isostatic pressing method. In other words, refractory with high technical performance is the key to improve the age of glass fiber tank kiln. It is clear that whoever controls the high end of the refractory market will be able to grab the gold easily.
